UW Men Crack Top 10 of AP Poll

Jan. 17, 2005

SEATTLE - The Washington Huskies vaulted four places to No. 10 in the Associated Press men's basketball poll released Monday, their highest ranking in 29 years.

Washington (15-2) appears in the top 10 for the first time since the Mar. 2, 1976 AP rankings. UW was listed 10th in that poll after being ranked No. 8 the previous week on Feb. 26, 1976.

The Huskies were ranked 14th last week when they swept a pair of home games to claim sole possession of first place in the Pac-10 standings with a 5-1 conference record. UW defeated Oregon 77-56 on Thursday (Jan. 13) and Oregon State 108-68 on Saturday (Jan. 15).

The Huskies have been ranked all year since starting the season at No. 22 in the preseason writer's poll. They previously climbed as high as No. 12 in both the Dec. 20 and Jan. 3 rankings.

Tickets are still available for this week's action when Washington hosts cross-state rival Washington State on Sunday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at Bank of America Arena for the game that will be televised live on FSN. Tickets can be purchased online at the official UW athletic department website (www.gohuskies.com) or through the Husky Ticket Office (206-543-2200).
