WSU Travels to Nevada

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's swim team will travel to Reno to take on the University of Nevada, Saturday January 18 at 11 a.m...this is the first dual meet for WSU since November...WSU is currently 2-1 in dual meets with victories against San Jose State and Arkansas...WSU is 2-12 all-time against Nevada including two losses in 2003...WSU is 0-7 all-time at Nevada...the last WSU win came in 2002...the Wolf Pack of Nevada are 3-1 after posting a loss in its last dual meet versus Nebraska.

COACH QUAM: Erica Quam is in her third season as the WSU head women's swimming coach.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars are coming off a fifth place finish in the sprint meet at the UC Irvine WSU swimmers placed in the top 10 within their event...sophomore Erin McCleave led the Cougars with a pair of second place and fourth place finishes...Monika Povilonyte captured second in the 50 breaststroke and a third in the 100 breaststroke...Bryn Mooney finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 50 butterfly.

LAST SEASON: Five swimmers placed on the Cougar all-time top 10 list at the Pacific-10 finishers included Lindsay Backhouse in the 100 and 200 backstroke, Jane Copland and Monika Povilonyte in the breaststroke events...Erin McCleave recorded a school record in the 200 freestyle.

ACADEMICS: WSU finished first in the nation academically spring semester 2004 with a 3.66 grade point average...Cougars finished fourth in the fall of 2003 with a GPA of 3.489.

UP NEXT: The Cougars will travel to Corvallis, Ore., to compete against Oregon State and Idaho, January 28-29. The two-day meet will begin Friday at 7 p.m. and continue Saturday at 10 a.m.
