Softball Holds Clinic, Alumnae Game in Irvine on Sunday

The two-time defending NCAA Champions open their 2005 schedule this Sunday afternoon with a clinic and Alumnae Game at Deanna Manning Stadium at Bill Barber Marine Corps Park in Irvine, Calif. The annual event includes a full day of activities. Due to ongoing renovations at UCLA's Easton Stadium, the event is being held in Irvine.

Pre-Game Clinic at Bill Barber Marine Corps Park
Sunday's events begin at 9 am in Irvine. The Bruins will conduct a hitting clinic from 9-11 am. The clinic will be staffed by the Bruin coaches, players and Alumnae. Alumnae, Current Players to Participate in 1 pm Event
More than 20 former Bruin softball players will suit up on Sunday at 1 pm for the annual alumnae game, including six Olympic Gold Medalists. All five former Bruins who participated with Team USA at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games last summer will be in attendance: Lisa Fernandez, Tairia Mims Flowers, Amanda Freed, Stacey Nuveman and Natasha Watley. Sheila (Cornell) Douty, a member of the 1996 and 2000 gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic Teams is also scheduled to participate in the game.

Current and former Bruins will be mixed into two teams for the game-like event.

Easton Stadium Renovation andAlternate Home Sites
UCLA Softball's on-campus facility, Easton Stadium, is currently being renovated to provide fans with approximately 1,300 chair-back seats. The project is currently underway and the Bruins are aiming to return to campus for a Mar. 15 match-up with the Texas Longhorns.

UCLA will play the Jan. 23 Alumnae Game and the Feb. 2 UC Riverside game in Irvine, Calif., playing at Deanna Manning Stadium at Bill Barber Marine Corps Park. Admission will be free for both of those dates.

The fourth annual Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament will take place Feb. 4-6, 2005, and will be played at Lisa Fernandez Field at Mayfair Park in Lakewood, Calif. UCLA's regular admission prices will apply for the three-day tournament.
