Jan. 20, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team (3-0, 0-0 Pac-10) open the conference dual meet season on the road this weekend, taking on Arizona State on Friday, January 21, in Tempe, Ariz., and No. 5 Arizona on Saturday, January 22, in Tucson, Ariz.
Stanford defeated the Sun Devils last season in Palo Alto, 127-107. The Cardinal have not lost to ASU since the 1990-91 season. Last year, Stanford beat Arizona, 154-133 at the Avery Aquatic Center. The last Cardinal loss to the Wildcats came during the 1999-2000 season.
Last week, Stanford remained unbeaten in dual meet competition with a 144-107 victory over Pacific. The Cardinal recorded the top time in 15 of 16 events on the afternoon. Sophomore swimmer Andy Grant won three individual events while senior Jayme Cramer won two.
The Stanford men's swimming and diving team have posted four consecutive seasons without a loss in dual meet competition. The last time the Cardinal lost a dual meet was in the 1999-2000 season (to Texas). Since that time SU is 35-0 in dual meet competition, and are 59-3 since the 1997-98 season.
The Cardinal are back at home next week when they host USC on Saturday, February 5, at 1 p.m. in the Avery Aquatic Center.
