ASU's 2005 Vitalis Sun Bowl Champions To Be Honored

Arizona State University will honor its 2005 Vitalis Sun Bowl Championship football team at halftime of the men's basketball game with Oregon State University on Thursday, February 17, Director of Athletics Gene Smith announced Friday. The game tips at 7:00 p.m. MT.

Fourth-year Head Coach Dirk Koetter, his coaching staff, Vitalis Sun Bowl Most Valuable Player Sam Keller and the rest of the 2004 team will be recognized. A special video presentation of 'The Drive' that won the game will be shown on the videoboard, followed by an on-court presentation to the Vitalis Sun Bowl Champions. ASU defeated Purdue University, 27-23, in the 71st Vitalis Sun Bowl which was televised by CBS on December 31.

Keller, a sophomore, made his first college start at quarterback and completed 25 of 45 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns. Trailing 23-20, Keller hit sophomore tailback Rudy Burgess on a 19-yard screen pass and scored a touchdown with 43 seconds remaining to post the come-from-behind victory.

The Sun Devils begin Spring practice Monday, March 21 while the annual Spring Game is on Saturday, April 16. ASU will practice 15 times during the Spring.
