No. 7 ASU Gymnasts Lose At Arizona, 193.925-193.500

Junior Ashley Kelly won the 12th all-around title of her career, but No. 7 ranked Arizona State University lost to the University of Arizona, 193925-193.500 in gymnastics Friday at the McKale Center in Tucson. The Sun Devils are now 3-2 on the season and fall to 0-2 in Pacific-10 Conference action.
Kelly, a junior and the defending national champion on balance beam, easily outdistanced the field, scoring a 39.250. Teammate Lauren Powell placed second (38.800) while UA's Monica Bisordi (38.550) was third. ASU's Cassandra Jusino (38.425) was fourth and Kari Muth (37.725) was fifth.
Kelly tied for first-place on vault with Arizona's Katie Johnson, each posting a 9.825. ASU's April Boone was fourth (9.675) while Jusino tied for fifth (9.65). ASU's team vault score of 48.025 was its worst of the 2005 season. The Wildcats scored a 48.475.
On the uneven bars, Kelly again tied for first with Arizona's Jamie Schell at 9.825. Powell was third (9.775) and Jusino was fourth (9.75). Sophomore Lisa Lanza had her best finish, tying for fifth (9.725). The Sun Devils recorded a bars team score of 48.675 to UA's 48.100.
UA's Bisordi won the balance beam competition with a 9.875. Kelly was second (9.85), Muth (9.8) fourth while Powell tied for fifth (9.75). ASU scored a 48.825 on beam as UA posted a 48.825.
ASU's floor exercise score of 47.975 was its worst effort of the young '05 campaign. ASU teammates Kelly and Boone tied for third (9.75) while Powell tied for sixth (9.65). UA scored a 48.525 on floor.
The Sun Devils return home next Friday, January 28 to play host to No. 2 ranked and defending national champion UCLA at 7:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
