Candice Wiggins Earns Second Pac-10 Weekly Honor

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Freshman guard Candice Wiggins (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Wiggins averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a combined 48 minutes of play as Stanford swept No. 25 UCLA and USC. On the weekend, she shot 60.0 percent from the field (12-of-20), 50.0 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-10) and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the foul line.
In Stanford's 100-75 victory over No. 25 UCLA on Jan. 20, Wiggins scored 19 points and went 6-of-7 from the free throw line in just 24 minutes of play. She went 3-of-6 from three-point range, helping Stanford to 15 total treys, just one shy of the school and Pac-10 single-game record.
In the 94-58 win over USC on Jan. 22, Wiggins scored 23 points and added a career-high nine boards. She led the team in both categories and added four assists, once again in just 24 minutes of action.
Stanford (17-2 overall, 8-1 Pac-10) is first in the Conference race heading into the second round of Pac-10 play. The Cardinal will travel north to take on Washington and Washington State on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The Player of the Week honor is the second for Wiggins, who was recently named to the 20-player midseasonWooden Award List, and is the 31st all-time selection for Stanford.
