As teams make the turn and head into the second half of Conference play, the four-time defending Pac-10 champion STANFORD Cardinal (17-2 overall, 8-1 Pac-10) has emerged atop the pile, with a one-game lead over USC (13-5, 7-2)... The Cardinal's one-game cushion, however, has come by an average margin of victory of 25.4 points in its eight league wins... The Women of Troy have matched their Pac-10 first half from last season, the program's best league start since opening at 7-2 in 1996-97, the year they finished 16-2 and won the Conference crown... A three-way tie for third place among ARIZONA (14-5, 6-3), ARIZONA STATE (14-5, 6-3) and UCLA (12-6, 6-3) will shake loose mid-week, as the Sun Devils visit the Wildcats in Tucson... The Sun Devils are gunning for their first season sweep of rival Arizona since 2000-01... Arizona has won 34 of its last 35 home games, and in the ASU-UA series, the host has prevailed in each of the last six regular-season contests... OREGON (12-6, 5-4), one of three teams with perfect home slates in Pac-10 play, will look to snap a two-game losing skid to UCLA in McArthur Court.

In the latest RPI power ratings listed by College Basketball News and the WBCA/Summerville report, respectively, five Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 60 -- Stanford (7th, 8th), Arizona State (19th, 18th), USC (29th, 28th), UCLA (43rd, 43rd) and Oregon (55th, 55th)... With just two regular-season non-conference tilts remaining on the docket, Pac-10 teams post a combined record of 63-31 (.670) against non-league foes in 2004-05... UCLA SO G Noelle Quinn and Stanford FR G Candice Wiggins are listed among the Top-20 players on the John R. Wooden Award midseason list... WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES: Here's a look at the league race at the halfway mark last season, listed according to the standings as they appeared a year ago...

ARIZONA WILDCATS: FR G Jessica Arnold scored a career-high 21 points on 71 percent shooting, including 75 percent from beyond the arc, in Arizona's 86-65 win over Oregon State on Jan. 22... The Wildcats are 7-0 on the season in games where they have reached 80 points... The home team has prevailed in each of the last six regular-season contests between UA and rival Arizona State... The two programs have earned splits in the last three seasons... The Wildcats have won 34 of their last 35 games in the McKale Center.

ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS: ASU has held four Pac-10 opponents to 50 points or less four times this season and is leading the league in scoring defense at 51.8 points per game... The Sun Devils scored 74 points in the win over Oregon on Jan. 22, snapping a stretch that had seen them score just 46.3 points per game in the previous three contests... SR G Kylan Loney needs one more trey to tie the ASU career record of 134 three-pointers made, held by Crystal Cobb (1990-94)... ASU will try for its first win on rival Arizona's home court since a 70-67 overtime victory on Feb. 24, 2001.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS: The Bears will try to snap a five-game losing streak Thursday at Washington State... Posting the Pac-10's best three-point percentage (.422), Cal equaled its season high with nine treys in the loss to UCLA on Jan. 22... JR F Renee Wright matched her career high of 16 points against the Bruins, while SO G Sarah Pool added 12 points, including 10 in the first half.

OREGON DUCKS: The Ducks are 7-1 at home this season, including their 4-0 mark in Pac-10 home games... The Beavers pace the Pac-10 in free throw percentage in Conference games, shooting at a .736 clip (106-of-144).

STANFORD CARDINAL: The Cardinal has shot 49 percent or better from the field in five of its last six games, including a season-high 63.0 percent (34-of-54) Jan. 22 against USC... The Cardinal averaged 97.0 points in two games last week, posting a Pac-10 season-high in league games with 100 points in the win over UCLA... Stanford's 15 three-point field goals Jan. 20 against UCLA were one shy of the school and Pac-10 record... Led by FR G Candice Wiggins' 23 points, four players reached double figures in scoring against USC, the fourth straight game at least four Cardinal players have done so... SO C Brooke Smith is shooting a league-leading 62.9 percent from the floor (56-of-89) in Pac-10 games.

UCLA BRUINS: SO F Amanda Livingston paced UCLA with a career-high 23 points in its win at California, just the third time this season someone other than JR G Nikki Blue, SO G Noelle Quinn or JR G Lisa Wills has led the Bruins in scoring... Quinn underwent arthroscopic surgery Jan. 19 after suffering torn cartilage in her left knee Jan. 16 against Arizona... She is expected to be sidelined for three to six weeks... The Bruins have won five of the last six contests against Oregon, including the last two at McArthur Court... In the series with Oregon State, the home team has won in each of the last four meetings, including Jan. 2 in Los Angeles.

USC TROJANS: Of USC's five losses, four have come against ranked teams and four have been on the road... The Women of Troy have matched their best Pac-10 first half, set back in 1996-97 and equaled again last season... That year USC finished 26-4 and went 16-2 in Pac-10 play, winning the league title... After receiving votes in the Nov. 15 coaches' poll and the Nov. 29 AP poll, USC has received votes in both national polls in each of the last two weeks... USC's non-conference strength of schedule is listed as 13th in the nation in the Jan. 24 WBCA/Summerville report... The Trojans' RPI ratings are also strong, listed from 28th to 35th in the latest national rankings.

WASHINGTON HUSKIES: SO F Jill Bell led the team with a career-high 15 points and season-high 13 boards in the win at Washington State on Jan. 22...
