UCLA's Kristen Maloney Named Pac-10 Gymnast Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- UCLA senior Kristen Maloney has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for January 18-24, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Maloney, hailing from Pen Argyl, Penn, won the all-around with a career-high tying 39.75 and also won three events as UCLA won a quadrangular home meet with a score of 197.15. Maloney had an outstanding meet, scoring a season best 9.95 on bars and floor and 9.925 on vault and beam. She won bars and beam outright, tied for first on vault, and placed second on floor.

UCLA's team marks were 49.475 on vault, 49.4 on bars, 48.675 on beam and a season-best 49.6 on floor. The Bruins' final team score of 197.15 helped raise their average enough to move up to No. 1 in this week's team rankings. Maloney is now ranked No. 1 in the nation in the all-around with a season average of 39.558. Her all-around score from Sunday's meet is the highest in the nation this year. Maloney is also ranked second on beam and vault and third on bars.
