Jill Bell Shines in Husky Loss

Jan. 27, 2005

SEATTLE, Wash.- In Washington's (8-12, 4-6), 82-60 loss against #2 Stanford (18-2, 9-1), sophomore forward Jill Bell once again put up star-like numbers. Bell, who has scored in double figures in three of the last four games, put up 14 points on seven-of-13 shooting. Before fouling out, late in the second half, Bell also added three boards and a steal.

'Well I just thought Jill gave every ounce of energy she had in that body,' said Head Coach June Daugherty. 'To front the way she has to front against larger opponents, and get up and have to chase lob passes, and run the floor, and the flurry at the end where she just kept scoring. We appreciate what she did tonight.'

Bell, who hails from Bellevue High School, has had nine games where she has scored in double-digits this year, including last game at WSU where she led the Huskies to a victory with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Washington held close for much of the game, trailing 31-36 at halftime. Early in the second half the Huskies pulled within one off a basket from Bell, but Stanford streaked ahead with nine unanswered points in a three-and-a-half minute span. The run proved to be too much for the Huskies to overcome with Stanford leading by at least ten for the last thirteen minutes of the game.

On Saturday, January 29 the Huskies host California (8-10, 2-7), at the Bank of America Arena, before heading to Los Angeles for games against UCLA and USC.
