Stanford's Dan Grunfeld Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford forward Dan Grunfeld has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for January 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Grunfeld, a junior from River Falls, Wis., averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the field and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from beyond the arc in leading the Cardinal to a pair of road victories over UCLA and USC. Against the Bruins, Grunfeld scored 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-2 from three-point range and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line, while also contributing seven rebounds. He followed that up with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists against the Trojans.

For the season, Grunfeld leads the team and is second in the Pac-10 in scoring, averaging 18.6 points per game.

This is the first weekly honor for Grunfeld, and Stanford's 35th Player of the Week all-time.

After opening league play at 0-3, Stanford (10-7, 4-3) has won four consecutive Pac-10 games and moved into third place in the league standings. The Cardinal returns home to face Oregon State and Oregon this week.
