Goetsch, Hartley Win In Trojan Loss At Stanford

Junior Blythe Hartley won the 3-meter springboard and freshman Emily Goetsch won the 100y fly to lead No. 17 USC's efforts in a 193-103 loss to No. 5 Stanford on Saturday (Jan. 29) in Palo Alto, Calif.

Goetsch, who won both butterfly events at Cal on Friday, won the 100y fly in 55.54, edging 2004 Olympic butterflyer Dana Kirk (55.69). Marisa Kozak took third in 56.13. Goetsch took second in the 200y fly (2:00.18), beaten by Kirk's 1:59.64.

Hartley won the 3-meter with 320.25 and was also second on 1-meter.

Senior Joanna Fargus just missed a win in the 100y back, touching in 55.91, just 0.10 off of Brooke Bishop's winning time of 55.81.

Sophomore Kalyn Keller was second in the 500y free in 4:53.21 while Kozak was second in the 400y IM (4:31.60).

USC wraps up its home schedule by hosting crosstown rival UCLA on Feb. 12 at McDonald's Stadium. Five points will be on the line in the Lexus Gauntlet competition between the two schools.
