No. 28 California Falls to No. 7 Stanford, 5-2

Berkeley - The No. 28 Golden Bears (1-1 overall, 0-1 Pac-10) dropped their first match of the 2005 season to No. 7 Stanford (1-0 overall, 1-0 Pac-10), 5-2, at Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Center. With the loss, Cal falls to 1-1 on the season, 0-1 in Pac-10 Conference play.
Stanford opened the match by picking up the doubles point, winning two of the doubles matches. Cal's Tyler Browne and Daniel Sebescen picked up the Bears lone doubles victory, defeating Phil Sheng and James Wan, 8-3.
Cal senior Patrick Briaud picked up a win for the Bears on court three, winning an impressive match against the Cardinal's Wan, 7-6; 6-4. Freshman Ken Nakahara continued what has been an impressive debut year for the Bears, winning his tenth singles match of the year. Nakahara defeated Phil Kao, 6-4; 7-5, on court five.
The Bears next face University of San Diego, Saturday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m. at Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Center.
