Track & Field's Kinnaman Claims Heptathlon Victory at NAU Multi-Event

TEMPE, Ariz. - The second day of competition at the Northern Arizona Multi-Events meet concluded Saturday in Flagstaff, Ariz., with Joshua Kinnaman, a member of the Arizona State University track and field team, winning the men's heptathlon. Originally starting with three competitors, one athlete did not compete Saturday with Kinnaman winning and teammate Ryan Ehler placing second.
Heading into the second day and final three events, Kinnaman held a 600 point lead over Ehler, outscoring him 3,248-2,648. In the first event of day two, Kinnaman picked up where he left off one day earlier as he won his fifth event in a row, taking the 60m hurdles in 8.81 (788 points) while Ehler picked up 722 points in 9.11. From there, both men earned 722 points as each cleared a height of 4.37m (14-04.00) in the pole vault.
The final event of the day, the 1,000m run, saw Kinnaman cover the distance in 3:02.04 to earn 644 points while Ehler ran the circuit in 3:41.05 to take 319 points. For the entire meet, Kinnaman accumulated 5,402 points to meet the standard needed to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships later this season.
The entire team returns to action next weekend as the team returns to Flagstaff for the Mountain T Invitational. The meet begins at 8 a.m. on Feb. 5 and will again be conducted inside the JL Walkup Skydome.
