Alejandro Canizares In Control Of PING-Arizona Intercollegiate After First Day

Junior Alejandro Canizares shot a 6-under 65 in the first round and stands at 9-under midway through the second round at the PING-Arizona Intercollegiate held in Tucson. Darkness suspended play, but Canizares has a four-shot lead over Jeff Hood of California.

Arizona State University shot a 1-over 285 in the first round at the 6,793-yard, par-71 Arizona National course and is currently in seventh at 9-over.

Phil Telliard, playing individually, is tied for 12th with an even 71 in the first round and staying even early in the second round.

BYU leads the teams with a 280 in the first round and currently is at 8-under, while Tulsa (287) is at 6-under midway through the second round.

The teams will finish the second round and play a final round on Tuesday.
