Bruce Read Named Full-Time Assistant

Feb. 1, 2005

Corvallis, Ore. - Bruce Read has been promoted to a full-time assistant coach on the Oregon State University football staff, head coach Mike Riley announced Tuesday. Read served as a graduate intern last season after working the previous two years for the New York Giants of the National Football League.

Read will continue to serve as the team's special teams coordinator. He held the same position at OSU during the 1997-98 seasons before leaving with Riley to work for the NFL's San Diego Chargers.

'I have always had a great deal of respect for coach Read and his expertise with special teams,' Riley said. 'He's done a terrific job at every place he has coached and he is well respected within the profession.'

Read began his coaching career in 1985 at the University of Montana, working for his father Don. He became a full-time assistant in 1987 and spent the next 10 years as the Grizzlies' special teams coach.

Read is a 1986 graduate of Portland State University with a bachelor's degree in social science.
