Feb. 1, 2005
Corvallis, Ore. - The 2005 Oregon State University football schedule has been completed with the addition of the University of Louisville Cardinals. The Beavers will travel to Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville to play the first of a two-game series Sat., Sept. 17. Officials at both schools are working out details for the Cardinals' return trip to Reser Stadium.
Louisville, a first-year member of the revamped Big East Conference, is coming off an 11-1 season that included winning the Liberty Bowl over previously unbeaten Boise State 44-40. The Cardinals ranked first in the NCAA in 2004 for total offense per game at 539 yards and scoring offense at 49.8 points per game. The team also ranked in the top 10 in four other offensive categories and ended the year No. 6 in the Associated Press Poll.
'This is a terrific opportunity for our program,' Beaver head coach Mike Riley said. 'Louisville has burst onto the college football seen in recent years, much like Oregon State has, and I look forward to a great game.'
The Cardinals have played in seven consecutive bowl games while Oregon State has appeared in five bowl games in the last six years.
Oregon State opens the 2005 schedule by christening the new-look Reser Stadium Sat., Sept. 3 against the Portland State Vikings. The Beavers then host Boise State Sept. 10 before making the trip to Louisville.
