Madison, Wisc. - The fourth-ranked and third-seeded UCLA women's tennis team was able to bounce back from its first loss of the year a day earlier, defeating 16th-ranked Texas A&M, 4-3 in consolation play Friday at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors hosted by the University of Wisconsin. UCLA (4-1), which was upset by Miami, 4-3 in the first round on Thursday, will next face second-seeded Clemson in another consolation match on Saturday.

The biggest win of the day was likely the Bruins' comeback victory at No. 2 doubles, clinching what proved to be a crucial point for in the match. Following a Texas A&M upset over fifth-ranked Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda at the No. 1 position, and a UCLA win at court No. 3, all attention turned to court No. 2, where Laura Gordon and Elizabeth Lumpkin were one game away from losing to Anna Blagdarova and Tiffany Clifford. Gordon and Lumpkin battled back from 7-5 down to win 9-7 and clinch the point for UCLA.

Another storyline for the Bruins on Friday was the play of the three freshmen, who all stepped up and posted big wins in singles play. Zalameda, ranked ninth nationally, ended up clinching the match for the Bruins at the No. 1 position, registering a 6-2, 6-2 victory over 47th-ranked Helga Vieira. Fellow freshman Tracy Lin was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Clifford at the No. 4 spot, while Lumpkin dispatched of Seva Iwinski, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Texas A&M earned its three points on the afternoon at the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 positions.
