Women's Hoops Rolls to 76-59 Win at California

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Junior Kristen Kovesdy scored 19 of her 21 points in the second half as Arizona State University pulled away to defeat the University of California 76-59 in Pac-10 women's basketball action on Thursday night.

Emily Westerberg had 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds for Arizona State (15-6, 7-4), and Kylan Loney added 16 points.

Loney and Westerberg combined to make six of their seven 3-pointers, as the Sun Devils, last in the Pac-10 in 3-pointers made, more than doubled their usual output from beyond the arc with seven overall.

California (8-13, 2-10) has now lost eight in a row overall, including four straight to the Sun Devils. Jessica Lawson and Rene Wright led Cal with 12 points each.

Arizona State struggled with close-in shots and didn't break the game open until the second half. The Sun Devils led just 30-27 at the half.

California was hurt by turnovers, as it has been all season. The Bears lead the Pac-10 in turnovers by a wide margin, and had 24 Thursday, leading to 36 Arizona State points.
