Hilde Wins Twice In No. 7 USC Loss At No. 2 Stanford

Sophomore diver Michael Hilde won both springboard events while fellow soph Larsen Jensen won his specialty, the mile, to lead No. 7 USC, but No. 2 host Stanford had most of the success in a 179-116 win on Saturday (Feb. 5).
USC dropped to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in the Pac-10 in its final dual meet of the season. Stanford improved to 6-0, 3-0.
Hilde led a pair of 1-2-3 sweeps for the Trojan divers. He won the 1-meter with 319.42 and was followed by sophomore Kenny Jenkins (292.87) and senior Ray Vincent (267.52). Hilde then won the 3-meter with 336.90. Vincent was second (291.90) and Jenkins was third (272.77).
Jensen, who won the 500y and 1,000y freestyles at Cal on Friday, won the 1,650y free against the Cardinal in 15:03.79, winning a tight race against Stanford's Shaun Phillips, who touched third in 15:06.67.
Junior Ous Mellouli won the 200y IM in a season best 1:48.16 while senior Richard Gosper, a first-year Trojan from Australia, posted a pair of thirds in the 100y fly (49.84, season best) and the 50y free (20.68).
Stanford's Hongzhe Sun won both backstrokes, Ben Wildman-Tobriner won the 50y and 100y free and Gary Marshall swept the breaststrokes.
USC doesn't swim again until the Pac-10 Championships, held March 2-5 at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.
