No. 11 UCLA Men's Track and Field Team Shines at Boise Indoor

The No. 11 UCLA men's track and field team had an impressive showing in Idaho Feb. 4-5 as the Bruins won seven events and picked up five NCAA qualifying marks at the Boise Indoor.
Seven Bruins picked up individual wins, while five picked up NCAA provisional marks in Boise. Senior Tony Golston recorded his second consecutive win of the season in the 60m hurdles, in a provisional qualifying time of 7.86. Sophomore David Shortenhaus won the pole vault with a provisional mark of 17-1.25 (lifetime-best), while Everhart won the 200m in a time of 21.38. Freshmen jumpers Dominique Easterling and Michael Johnson, Jr. both posted wins in Idaho, with Easterling winning the long jump (23-0.75) and Johnson winning the triple jump (49-5.50). Senior Nick Thornton won his second consecutive 800m race in a time of 1:50.29 and the 4x400m relay team of Mario Bassani, Craig Everhart, James Rhoades and Thornton won in a time of 3:12.85.
Freshman John Caulfield led a trio of shot putters with NCAA provisional marks on Saturday. Caulfield improved on last week's lifetime-best (58-10.25) with a toss of 60-0.25 to finish second, while Jake Knight (59-2.75) and Jeremy Silverman (58-3.00) finished third and fourth with provisional tosses.
Other Bruin men with top-three finishes in Boise were - senior Jonathan Williams in the 60m hurdles (2nd, 8.06), Bassani (2nnd, 48.45) and freshman James Rhoades (3rd, 48.87) in the 400m, junior Mike Landers in the pole vault (2nd, 16-6.75, indoor lifetime-best), Easterling in the triple jump (3rd, 46-8.25), and junior Martell Munguia in the 800m (2nd, 1:50.56).
The Bruins will continue the indoor track season next week in Fayetteville, AR, the site of the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships, Saturday, Feb. 12 for the Tyson Invitational.
