SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - No. 16 ranked Oregon State University split a pair of games on Saturday at the UC Santa Barbara Softball Tournament. The Beavers opened the day with a 7-3 victory against University of New Mexico but dropped a 6-1 decision against host UC Santa Barbara.

OSU (2-1) pounded 13 hits against the Lobos and had five different players tally a pair of hits in the lop-sided contest.

Sophomore Mia Longfellow finished with a 2-for-3 performance and two runs scored, while Adrienne Alo finished with a 2-for-3 mark and a double. Freshman Cambria Miranda added a 2-for-4 effort with a double, while junior Ingrid Lochelt and senior Kelly Petersen both picked up a pair of hits as well.

Junior pitcher Amy Klever earned the victory, striking out four batters in 3.1 innings of work. Sophomore Brianne McGowan closed out the game and was credited with the save.

'Amy came out and started the game really well and did a great job,' said OSU head coach Kirk Walker.

Oregon State struggled offensively in the nightcap against UCSB. Besides a 2-for-3 effort from Lisa Allen, the Beavers' only other hit was a fourth inning home run by junior Vanessa Iapala.

'Lisa Allen had a great day hitting again and Vanessa Iapala had a big home run in the second game, but we just couldn't maintain the lead,' said Walker.

The Beavers held a 1-0 advantage into the bottom of the fifth before the Gauchos' bats came alive. UCSB scored all six of its run in the frame, taking advantage of four hits and a pair of Oregon State errors.

Sophomore hurler Ta'Tyana McElroy was credited with the loss while seeing 4.1 innings of action. McGowan entered in the fifth and finished out the game.

'Pitching wise Bri and Ty both did a good job today,' said Walker. 'We only had one bad inning, but in that inning they scored six runs and we had two errors combined with some poor pitching situations and the momentum went towards the opposition.'

Oregon State closes out tournament action with a re-match against New Mexico on Sunday at 9 a.m.

'Overall it was a good day for us in terms of giving us some game-like experience and it also gives us some things to work on when we get back to practice next week,' said Walker.
