No. 5 Cardinal Defeat Santa Clara 19-4

Stanford, Calif. - Shortstop Lauren Lappin hit two homeruns to lead the fifth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 19-4 victory over Santa Clara this afternoon at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 2-0 on the year while the Broncos drop to 1-4. The 19 runs is the most by Stanford this season and the most since they scored 21 against Ohio University in 1999.
Stanford's entire lineup hit in each of the first three innings.
Lappin ended the game going 4-for-4 with six RBI and four runs scored. Tricia Aggabao went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored while teammate Meghan Sickler also had a 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Pinch hitter Michelle Thiry went 1-for-2 with a homerun as well.
Freshman Becky McCullough (1-0) picked up the win in the circle for Stanford, going three innings with three strikeouts. Sophomore Danika Dukes was credited with a save, pitching two scoreless innings in relief. Santa Clara's Liz Courter (0-2) took the loss for the Broncos, allowing 13 runs on nine hits over two innings of work.
