No. 5 Cardinal Shut Out Pacific 5-0

Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal Catalina Morris hit her third homerun of the season while Laura Severson threw a two-hit shutout to help the fifth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 5-0 win over Pacific this evening at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. Stanford improves to 3-0 on the year while the Tigers drop to 1-1.
Catalina Morris broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth inning when she hit a solo shot to centerfield to give Stanford the lead. Freshman Anna Beardman roped a triple to rightfield, scoring Lauren Lappin with two outs on the board. Fellow freshman Tricia Aggabao hit a bloop single over first base, allowing Beardman to score and put the Cardinal up 3-0.
Stanford scored two more in the top of the sixth to go extend their lead to 5-0. Anna Beardman picked up two more RBI when she knocked in pinch runner Megan Bordelon and centerfielder Catalina Morris.
Laura Severson (2-0) pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout for the Cardinal with six strikeouts. Kristen Allen took the loss for the Tigers, allowing five runs on 11 hits over five innings of work.
Freshman Anna Beardman went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI while Catalina Morris had a 2-for-3 effort that included her third homerun of the young season. Catcher Leah Nelson chipped in two hits as well.
The Cardinal take on Pacific again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Tigers will face Santa Clara at 11 a.m. as well.
