Erica McClain Sets Another School Record in Triple Jump

New York, NY - Erica McClain continued her early 2005 indoor track & field success when a school record first place finish in the triple jump on Saturday at the New York Armory Invitational.
McClain, the three-time Texas state prep champion in the triple jump, won the competition with a leap of 44-11 (13.69m). Last week at the Boise Indoor Invitational, McClain, a freshman, set the then school record in her first collegiate competition with a leap of 43-10 1/2 (13.37m).
Once again, officials at the New York Armory Invitational (armorytrack.com) were having trouble producing results for publication. As of 2/6/05 at 12:30 a.m. (pst), complete results were not available.
Some Stanford results were available. Janice Davis finished fourth in the 200 meters with a school record time of 23.82. Davis broke the old record of 23.88 by Ashley Purnell in 2003. On Friday night, Davis set the school record in the prelims of the 60 meters with a time of 7.32. Laura Mottaz won the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.33. Michael Macellari finished second in the shot put with a throw of 53-6 1/2 (16.32m). Robert McDade of Villanova won the competition at 54-9 1/2 (16.70m). The women's distance medley relay team finished third in a time of 11:07.81. Villanova won the competition in a time of 11:05.23 followed by North Carolina at 11:05.31. Erica Whipple of South Carolina won the event in a time of 23.59. Jonathan Pierce finished sixth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:04.21. Richard Kiplagat of Iona won the race (8:00.32)™
