Husky Golfers in Fourth Place at Regional Challenge

Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Washington women's golf team opened its spring season today by shooting 13-over 297 to stand fourth at the 15-team Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. UCLA, the nation's second-ranked team, owns a four-stroke lead over top-ranked Duke. The Bruins carded a 289 to the Blue Devils 293. Pepperdine is in third place at 296. Oklahoma State is tied with the Huskies on the leaderboard.
The Huskies were led by All-American Paige Mackenzie, who shot 2-over 73 and is seventh on the leaderboard. Duke's Brittany Lang grabbed a two-stroke lead by shooting 3-under 68.
Husky sophomore Amy Wang shot 3-over 74 to finish 11th after the first round. Sung Ea Lee and Amber Prange both carded 75s to tie for 19th. Freshman Kim Shin, who led UW in stroke average during the fall, posted a 77, equaling her highest score of the season.
The second round of the Regional Challenge is scheduled for Tuesday and the final 18 holes will be played Wednesday. Live scoring of the tournament is available at golfstat.com.
