OSU Gains Notice In Baseball Poll

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State earned votes in the Sports Weekly/ESPN national baseball coaches poll that was released Monday. The Beavers, who started the season with three wins in four games last weekend, had the 28th-highest point total in this week's poll after not receiving any votes in the preseason poll.
OSU opened its 2005 schedule at Arizona State's Bob Schaefer Memorial Tournament, beating New Mexico State 19-0, losing to Gonzaga 3-1, beating NMSU 11-2 and then beating the host team, the ninth-ranked Sun Devils, 12-6. During the weekend, Oregon State batted .359 as a team and outscored its opponents 43-11; OSU's pitchers posted a 2.73 earned run average and limited opposing hitters to a .170 batting average.
This weekend, OSU plays in the Oakland Athletics Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. The Beavers will play Missouri on Friday at 2 p.m. PST, Kansas State on Saturday at 2 p.m. PST, Northwestern on Sunday at 8 a.m. PST and Missouri on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. PST.
