PAC-10 RACE HEATS UP IN THE DESERT
USC, UCLA travel to Arizona schools for critical matchups

With just three weekends left in regular-season play, the Pacific-10 Conference women's basketball race continues to heat up... This week, the epicenter moves to the Arizona desert... Second-place USC (16-6 overall, 10-3 Pac-10) and third-place UCLA (15-7, 9-4) -- with just one game separating them -- head to the Arizona schools for Thursday and Saturday contests... ARIZONA STATE (15-7, 7-5) and ARIZONA (15-8, 7-5) enter the week tied for fifth in the league standings, just one game back of OREGON (15-6, 8-4), and a game and a half behind the Bruins... Combined, the Sun Devils and Wildcats post an 18-3 record on their home floors this season and are 8-2 in Pac-10 home games... The desert trip is a tough one, as STANFORD's (21-2, 12-1) wins in Tempe and Tucson last month marked the first time a Pac-10 team had gone 2-0 on the Arizona trip in five years -- since UCLA and Oregon accomplished the feat in 1999-2000... Saturday's USC-Arizona matchup will be televised live on FSN at 4 p.m. MT... The first-place Cardinal, winners of 12 straight, head across town to take on CALIFORNIA (9-13, 3-10) Friday night... The Bears, having just snapped an eight-game losing streak, have notched eight of their nine wins this year on their home court... Oregon continues its quiet climb up the Pac-10 standings, and trails third-place UCLA by just a half game.

In the latest RPI power ratings listed by College Basketball News and the WBCA/Summerville report, respectively, six Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 60 -- Stanford (6th, 8th), Arizona State (19th, 20th), Arizona (33rd, 33rd), USC (36th, 36th), Oregon (45th, 44th) and UCLA (49th, 51st)... Pac-10 teams have posted a combined record of 64-32 (.667) against non-league foes in 2004-05.

ARIZONA WILDCATS: SR G Dee-Dee Wheeler moved into 15th place on the Pac-10 career scoring list over the weekend, surpassing Oregon State's Felicia Ragland (1,803 pts.)... UA will attempt to prevent its first season sweep at the hands of USC since the 1994-95 season... Arizona shot a season-low 29 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 58 to 40 in its 70-61 loss at California.

ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS: Coming off three straight road games, ASU ends the regular season with four of its last six games at Wells Fargo Arena... The Sun Devils have won 13 of their last 14 home games and 85.5 percent of their games at Wells Fargo Arena over the last four seasons... ASU's career leader for three-pointers made, SR G Kylan Loney has knocked down 63.2 percent of her long-range attempts over the last four games, including 4-of-5 at California and 3-of-3 at Stanford last week... SO F Aubree Johnson has averaged 6.6 rebounds per game over the last five contests and has led the team in the category in three of the five games... The Sun Devils held Stanford to its lowest offensive total since the Cardinal's 62-58 loss at Oregon on Dec. 29, 2004.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS: California finishes the regular season with three of its next five games at Haas Pavilion... The Bears have posted eight of their nine wins at home this season... Cal snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 71-60 win over Arizona on Feb. 5... The Bears have led at the half in five of their last six games... SR G Kristin Iwanaga, who entered last week's games ranked second in the nation in free throw percentage, was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe over the weekend.

OREGON DUCKS: The Ducks are 10-1 at home and 7-0 in Conference play this season... SR G Corrie Mizusawa notched her third double-digit assist game on the year with 10 against Oregon State on Feb. 5... Mizusawa has 28 combined assists over the last three games and is sixth on the UO single-season list with 148... Oregon is one of just three Division I schools that have at least two teammates with more than 700 career rebounds... SR F Cathrine Kraayeveld (710 rebounds) and SR C Andrea Bills (803 rebounds) are among the elite company of Kansas State's Kendra Wecker and Megan Mahoney and Baylor's Sophia Young and Tiffanie Blackmon... The Beavers have won 11 in a row over Washington State... OSU has won the second meeting of the season against UW in each of the last three years, managing season splits on each occasion.

UCLA BRUINS: With a half-game lead on Oregon, UCLA enters the week in third place in the Pac-10... The Bruins have won four of their last five games, despite playing without SO G Noelle Quinn since Jan. 20... The Bruins are in the midst of a stretch that has them playing six of eight games on the road... Willis moved past Maylana Martin for seventh place on the UCLA all-time steals list over the weekend, with 238 in her career... Willis needs three more to move past Anita Ortega for sixth place... Looking to improve on their 4-3 record in league road games, the second-place Women of Troy will try for their first season sweep of Arizona since the 1994-95 season... That's also the last time USC won both at the Arizona schools, who post a combined record of 18-3 on their home floors this year... The Women of Troy's last win in Tucson came in 2001-02... With a career-high 16 points against the Huskies Feb. 5, SR C Kim Gipson led the Trojans to their first season sweep over the Washington schools in five years.

WASHINGTON HUSKIES: The Huskies begin a three-game homestand this week... UW will try for its first season sweep of Oregon State since 2000-01...
