PEBBLE BEACH, CA - Former University of California standout golfers; Charlie Wi, Peter Tomasulo and Jesse Ruda, will be competing in this week's PGA Tournament - the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Feb. 10-13 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Wi had earned his PGA card after qualifying during the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, Dec. 1-6, 2004 in La Quinta, Calif. He was one of 35 players who earned their PGA card for the 2005 season after finishing with a round of 68, and a total six round score of 425. Wi finished tied for 26th overall in the tournament and had the fourth lowest score in the final round. He was a first team All-American for the Bears during the 1994-95 season, as well being the 1995 Pac-10 medallist.
Recent Cal grads Tomasulo and Ruda qualified for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by shooting 67s Monday at Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose. Tomasulo and J.R. Ruda were both members of the Bears' 2004 NCAA championship squad. Tomasulo was also a first team All-American in 2004, an Academic All-American and a three-time first team All-Pac-10 selection. He had finished tied for 10th with teammate Jeff Hood at the 2004 NCAA championship (282, +2) in Hot Springs, Virginia. Ruda was honorable mention All-Pac-10 last season and shot 290 (+10) at the NCAA championship.
'How great is that? To have three Bears play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is remarkable,' said Cal coach Steve Desimone, who coached Wi during the 1994-95 season, Tomasulo from 2002-04 and Ruda from 2000-04. 'I am ecstatic.'
