Feb. 8, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano will serve as a guest coach for the Arizona State University women's basketball team on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena for the Sun Devils' game against USC.

Napolitano will sit on the bench with the Sun Devils during the game, be a part of team huddles and attend pre-game, halftime and post-game locker room meetings with the team. She holds a 1-0 record on the bench for the Sun Devils, helping to guide ASU to a 65-40 win over Oregon on Feb. 19, 2004.

Thursday's game with USC will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised statewide by AZ-TV.

Arizona State brings a 15-7 overall record and a 7-5 Pac-10 mark into Thursday's game with the Women of Troy. The Sun Devils are tied for fifth place in the Pac-10 standings but stand just a game and a half out of third place with six games left in the regular season.

The Sun Devils travel to Oregon and Oregon State next weekend before wrapping up the regular season at home with Washington and Washington State on Feb. 24 and 26, respectively.

Looking for the team's sixth straight postseason appearance and its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2002, ASU will head to San Jose, Calif., for the fourth annual Pac-10 Conference Tournament March 4-7. The first and second rounds of the 2005 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held at eight on-campus sites March 19-22.

ASU will host the Tempe Regional of the 2005 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship March 26 and 28 at Wells Fargo Arena.
