Rough Second Day Drops UW to 2nd at Regional Challenge

Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. - Suffering through its worst round of the season, the fourth-ranked Washington women's golf team shot 31-over 315 to drop three spots to seventh after 36 holes of play at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Pepperdine posted a 296 for the second straight day to grab a one stroke lead over UCLA and Duke entering Wednesday's final round of play.

The Huskies are now 20 strokes behind the Waves after starting the tournament with a 297 on Monday. Washington's 36-hole total stands at 612.

Paige Mackenzie posted UW's best number for the second consecutive round, shooting 5-over 76 to drop back to 12th-place overall. Mackenzie's two-day total stands at 7-over 149. Amy Wang and Amber Prange both carded 78s for Washington during the second round. Wang is now 28th overall at 152 while Prange is 30th at 153. Sung Ea Lee and Kim Shin both ran into trouble during the second round and shot 83. Lee is now 57th at 158 while Shin fell back to 63rd at 160.

Duke's Brittany Lang owns a 5-stroke advantage for medalist honors. She followed her opening round 68 with a 1-over 72 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 2-under 140. UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas and Pepperdine's Eileen Vargas trail Lang by five strokes.
