UCLA Women's Track and Field Heads to Arkansas for Tyson Indoor Invitational

The UCLA women's track and field team will travel to the site of the upcoming 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 12 as they compete in the Tyson Indoor in Fayetteville, AR. The team has had a successful indoor campaign and will look to continue qualifying athletes for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships March 10-12.
The No. 9 UCLA women have qualified four athletes provisionally for the NCAA Indoor - junior Dawn Harper in the 60m hurdles (8.28), junior Jacqueline Nguyen in the pole vault (12-11.75), senior Candice Baucham in the triple jump (42-1.50) and junior Briona Reynolds in the shot put (50-9.50).
Harper led the Bruins last weekend at the Boise Indoor with double victories in the 60m (7.70) and 60m hurdles (8.37), while Nguyen won the pole vault (12-11.50) and freshman Allison Miller won her first event as a Bruin, winning the high jump with a leap of 5-7.75.
NCAA Outdoor Champion and record holder in the pole vault, Chelsea Johnson, continues to rehab a strained hamstring and is set to return for the MPSF Championships February 25-26 in Seattle.
With the MPSF Indoor Championships only a few weeks away, the Bruins are poised to finish well, with several women ranked in the top-five in their events. Harper (60m hurdles), Reynolds (shot put) and Lara Saye (weight throw) are ranked first in their respective events, while Baucham (triple jump) and the DMR currently rank second in the conference. Others in the top-five include - Dana Bethel (3rd, LJ), Saye (2nd, SP), N. Hall (4th, Pentathlon), Caroline Sommers (3rd, HJ), Miller (3rd, HJ) and Nguyen (5th, PV).
