Gaal Wins, Cougar Tennis Loses at Oregon

Feb. 11, 2005

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 75 Washington State women's tennis team was put down by the No. 25 Oregon Ducks, 6-1 Friday. The Ducks boasted two ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team.

The lone victory for the Cougars was captured by senior Nora Gaal who defeated Jamie Marshall after she retired, 6-3, 2-6, 1-3. The win puts Gaal's victory total at nine on the season and also moves her up to seventh on the Cougar all-time career singles victories list.

'We're really proud of Nora's effort this season,' Washington State head coach Lisa Hart said. 'She's been a great competitor for us.'

In doubles play Cougars Ekaterina Burduli/Nora Gaal fell to the No. 45 tandem of Dominika Dieskova/Daria Panova. The two Duck players proved to be just as tough in singles competition. The No. 31 ranked Panova put down Burduli, 7-6, 6-1 and the No. 34 ranked Dieskova knocked off senior Orsolya Sallai, 6-3, 6-0.

Next week the Cougars will take a tour of the Golden State by facing the Santa Clara Broncos Thursday, the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal Friday, and the No.16 California Bears Saturday.
