Hicks lead Huskies over Oregon State
Feb. 10, 2005
Seattle - The University of Washington Huskies (10-14, 6-8) were ready for the Oregon State Beavers (6-17, 1-12) in Thursday night's 84-53 win at the Bank of America Arena. Cameo Hicks scored the first two points off the tip, and the Huskies never looked back.
After the quick basket off the tip, the sophomore scored another quick lay-in that gave the Huskies a four point lead. Within four minutes the Huskies had expanded that lead to eight with a run that included a Jill Bell jumper, a Kayla Burt lay-in, and three-pointer by Hicks.
'It was a great game and everyone played hard,' said Hicks. 'I think we are finally learning how to play hard for 40 minutes. We talked about wanting to get into our running game and that helped us tremendously tonight. We had multiple fast break opportunities and I think that is what got us sparked.'
Hicks, who has averaged 9.1 points and 5 rebounds per game, finished the first half with eleven points on 5-7 shooting and logged eight rebounds, including six offensive boards. Her efforts helped get the Huskies out to an insurmountable 48-28 lead at the half. In the second half Hicks added another two points and a rebound, to finish tied with a team-high 13 points and a personal season-high nine rebounds.
