Beavers' Baseball Weekend Rained Out
Feb. 12, 2005
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Oregon State's baseball games at the Oakland Athletics Tournament have been rained out for the rest of the weekend. The Beavers were to have played Missouri on Friday, Kansas State on Saturday and Northwestern and Missouri on Sunday.
To avoid a two-week layoff between games, Oregon State (3-1 overall) and Portland - another of the teams in the Oakland Athletics Tournament - have added a game to their schedules and will play each other Tuesday at 3 p.m. at OSU's Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The Feb. 15 date is the earliest an OSU home-opener has ever been scheduled, four days ahead of the Beavers' scheduled home-opener against George Fox in 1990.
Friday's rainout continues a trend of Oregon State will have better weather luck at home than it does on the road.
Since the start of the 1997 season, the Beavers have had 41 games cancelled or rescheduled due to rain. Of those, only 13 have been games at OSU's Goss Stadium at Coleman Field; 19 were at ballparks in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawai'i, Texas or Florida. Another 9 were at ballparks elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
OSU has lost just 3 home games to rain during that time, while having 14 games cancelled at sites outside the region and 3 called off at other parks in the region. The Beavers have postponed 10 home games, 4 games at sites outside the region and 7 at other parks in the region.
