Between The Bars

UCLA at CSU Fullerton -
It's rewarding to see that we've had a few break throughs, yea! The team had a totally different energy last night than in all of their previous meets, even the ones we've done really well in. They finally let themselves have fun and let their personalities show through in their gymnastics.
Courtney Walker hit all four events and won the all-around. This was the first time she had competed in the all around as a Bruin and the first time she competed beam. It's great to watch her bust out and 'perform' - she is a beautiful and powerful gymnast.
Michelle Selesky was a rock star, nailing her first floor routine of the season! She's had trouble finding her feet on her double pike and hasn't danced her heart out until last night. Wow. That was fun!
Lindsey Vanden Eykel, our little blonde hip-hop artist, known to many as 'L-Boogie' (her self-appointed moniker) started off the fun on our first event by repeatedly asking her teammates, 'Can I get a What What!' in true L-Boogie style.
All in all, gone were the eyebrows high up on their foreheads, wondering if they could make their routines. And I can confidently say that gone are the days that we train better than we compete. Last night was a turning point for us to be able to come out and compete with the same intensity in hard work and fun that we train with.
I love these little breakthroughs.
Many thanks to our fans that battled the rain and Friday night traffic last night to catch our meet ... including our ever-growing UCLA Football battalion.
See you Sunday at Pauley.
