NAMPA, Idaho - Four Washington State University student-athletes reached NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks at the Holiday Inn Indoor Track Invite at the Idaho Sports Center Saturday.

Reaching NCAA PQ marks were Cougars Tyson Byers in the men's pole vault, James McSwain in the 60m dash, Jamil Smith in the triple jump, and Tamara Diles in the women's pole vault.

Byers, a redshirt-sophomore from the Spokane Valley, took third place in the men's pole vault with a lifetime-best leap of 17-feet, five inches (5.31m). Paul Litchfield and Ben Allen from the Pocatello Track Club took the top two places; Litchfield with a height of 17-9 (5.41m) and Allen with a 17-1 clearance on his first attempt while Byers needed two attempts at the same height. Byers has not cleared 17-feet since his prep days at University High where his PR was 17-1. WSU teammate Paul Nicoletti (senior, Snohomish, Wash.) cleared 16-6 3/4 (5.05m) for fifth place.

McSwain, a junior from Las Vegas, ran the 60m dash in a PR time of 6.72 seconds, second-fastest among the Friday night prelim heats. He went on to win the Saturday final in 6.77 while teammates Martin Boston (junior, Hayward, Calif.) finished tied for sixth (6.94) and Jaycee Robertson ninth at 7.01. McSwain also clocked an NCAA PQ and PR in the 200m dash prelims with a time of 21.44 and finished sixth in the final (21.48). In addition to the dashes, McSwain also finished 12th in the men's long jump with a leap of 22-5 1/4 (6.84m).

Smith, a senior from Palmdale, Calif., took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 51-4 1/14 (15.65m). Fellow Cougar Ben Hampton (junior, Kennewick) placed seventh in the triple jump at 47-3 (14.40m). Smith also finished 11th in the long jump at 22-6 1/2 (6.87m).

Diles, a junior from Bellevue, Wash., won the women's pole vault after clearing the bar at 13-0 1/4 (3.97m) and having fewer misses than San Diego State's Erin Asay who cleared the same height. Diles has already vaulted a better NCAA PQ height of 13-7 1/4 this season.

Other Cougar highlights from the Jacksons Indoor Track Facility included Kyle Eaton (freshman, Ellensburg, Wash.) taking fifth place in the men's high jump with a height of 6-6 3/4 (2.00m). Dione Cason (RS-junior, Long Beach, Calif.) took seventh in the men's 400m dash (48.37). Robin Mikesh (junior, Sumner, Wash.) took seventh place in the women's high jump with a height of 5-5 (1.65m).
