Husky Women's Swimming Defeats Pac-10 Rival Oregon State

Seattle - The 21st ranked Washington women's swimming team defeated Oregon State 147-115 today at the Husky Pool. The Huskies won five events and both relays en route to the victory.

Five Huskies won individual events, including double-event winners Caitlyn Shortt and Brittany Epperson. Shortt won the 100 (1:03.37) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.81), while Epperson won the 50 (23.59) and 100 freestyle (51.38) races. Sharon Olson also won the 200 freestyle (1:50.19).

Washington went two-three-four in the backstroke events. Desiree Johnson led the Huskies in the 100 backstroke (56.93), followed by Mary Patterson (59.08) and Nicole Bernard (59.87). The three swimmers finished in the same order in the 200 backstroke, Johnson swimming 2:05.30 to Patterson's 2:07.19 and Bernard's 2:08.49.

Johnson, Shortt, Maggie Bever and Epperson teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:43.87. The team of Epperson, Johnson, Bever and Olson also won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:26.85.

The Huskies return to action Feb. 23-26 when they compete at the Pac-10 Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
