No. 26 California Defeats No. 33 Arizona, 4-2

Berkeley - The No. 26 Golden Bears (3-1 overall) defeated No. 33 Arizona (5-2 overall), 4-2, in a thrilling match played at the Hellman Tennis Center. With the win, California, who improve to 3-1 overall, hand the Wildcats their second loss of the season, dropping them to 5-2.
Due to yesterday's postponement of Cal's match against Arizona State because of poor weather, singles were played first today as a precaution. Cal junior Conor Niland, No. 21 in the nation, picked up his tenth win of the season when he defeated No. 58 Rober Matalonga, 6-2; 6-4, on court one.
The Bears Tyler Browne recorded his fourth dual match win of the season on court four, defeating Daniel Andrus, 6-4; 6-2. Freshman Ken Nakahara remains a perfect 4-0 on court five, where he beat Bruno Alcala in straight sets, 6-2; 6-4.
Cal clinched the victory on court three, where senior captain Patrick Briaud recovered from dropping the first set to outlast Paul Warkentin in an amazing match, 4-6; 6-3; 7-6.
With the four points necessary for the win already achieved in singles, doubles matches were not played.
The Bears will resume their previously postponed match again Arizona State, Sunday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Center. The Bears will then host UC Santa Barbara, next Sunday, Feb. 20 at 12 p.m.
