No. 6 Softball Defeats Kentucky 14-3 In Five Innings

Stanford, Calif. - Sophomore Jackie Rinehart hit her first collegiate grand slam to help the sixth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 14-3 win over Kentucky in five innings at the Stanford Invitational at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 5-1 on the season while the Wildcats drop to 0-8.
Catalina Morris also had a stellar night at the plate for Stanford, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Morris hit her fifth homerun on the season as well. Freshman Anna Beardman had a 1-for-2 day at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI while fellow frosh Michelle Smith went 1-for-1 with a run scored and two RBI on the afternoon.
Freshman Becky McCullough (2-0) picked up the win in the circle for Stanford, pitching three innings while allowing one hit and two runs. Lauren Nydam and Danika Dukes each pitched an inning for the Cardinal to close out the game. Meghan Cooper took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing five runs on three hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
Stanford will close out action in the tournament against Long Beach State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Smith Family Stadium.
