No. 6 Stanford Takes First Game Of Doubleheader Versus Kansas, 7-3

Stanford, Calif. - No. 6 Stanford (5-2) won the first game of a doubleheader with a 7-3 victory over previously unbeaten Kansas (6-1) on Saturday at Sunken Diamond. Mark Romanczuk (2-1) picked up his 25th career victory on mound to move into a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time win list. Romanczuk struck gave up just two runs on six hits over the first 7.1 innings, striking out six and walked two. John Hester (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) and Jim Rapoport (3-4, 2B) had three hits each for the Cardinal, while Chris Lewis homered for the third time in the last two contests and drove in a pair of runs.
Gus Milner (2-3, 2 HR) hit a pair of solo homers for the Jayhawks, while Matt Baty (3-5, 2 2B, RBI) had three hits and doubled twice.Kansas starter Sean Land (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks with six strikeouts over the first 6.0 innings.
The teams will continue the doubleheader with the nightcap beginning at 4:20 pm, PT. Jeff Gilmore (1-0, 2.25) is slated to start for Stanford versus Clint Schambach of Kansas (1-0, 0.00).
