TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2005 Holiday Inn Team Invitational came to close Saturday afternoon in Nampa, Idaho, with members of the Arizona State University track and field teams posting more solid marks on both the track and in the field. Overall, the men recorded one NCAA automatic time and four provisional marks while the women posted one provisional standard.
The men were once again led by Domenik Peterson, who won the 200m dash in 20.74. His mark, a season-best, meets the NCAA automatic standard for the second day in a row following his 20.75 recorded in the preliminary round one day earlier. Also in the 200m dash, Seth Amoo finished fourth with a provisional mark of 20.97 while Kelvin Love finished seventh at 21.51. Ryan Zimmerman, who is coming off an injury that sidelined him much of last season, won the triple jump with a personal best mark of 15.74m (51-7.75) and provisionally qualified for the national meet. His mark also ranks fourth on the ASU all-time lists.
In the 60m dash, Amoo took fourth overall (6.87) before Jason Barton captured second in the 400m event with a provisional meeting 46.58. Marquis Profit finished seventh in the 60m hurdles (8.47) to round out the individual running results. The quartet of Amoo, Lewis Banda, Barton and Peterson competed in the 4x400m relay together for the first time this season and finished second at 3:07.15, being edged by the race's winner, LSU (3:06.52).
On the women's side of competition, Kandace Tucker claimed second in the 200m dash with a provisional standard meeting 23.63 while Cassandra Reed finished fifth at 24.82. Both ladies also ran one other race on the day as Tucker finished eighth at 60m (7.69) and Reed claimed fifth in the 400m dash (55.75). Porchea Carroll rounded out the ASU competitors, finishing fourth in the 60m dash (7.57).
The Sun Devils will compete as one group next time out as the men and women head to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Springco Invitational. The meet will open at 8:25 a.m. with the field events and at 8:30 a.m. for the running events inside the J.L. Walkup Skydome.
