UCLA Gymnasts Top Cal State Fullerton, 191.4-189.825

Fullerton, CA - Tight scoring kept scores low at Titan Gym, but the fifth-ranked UCLA gymnastics team (7-2) prevailed over host Cal State Fullerton (1-8), 191.4-189.825. Sophomore Courtney Walker won the all-around with a career-high 38.15.

UCLA started the competition slowly, counting a fall on the uneven bars and posting a 47.1. The Bruins were forced to count one sub 9.0 score but received stellar routines from Lindsey Vanden Eykel (9.75) and Jordan Schwikert (9.675). Walker's routine received a split decision from the judges, scoring a 9.45 from one and a 9.7 from the other for a final mark of 9.575. Ashley Peckett also hit her routine, scoring a 9.4 after taking several steps on her dismount.

The Bruins took the lead in rotation two, 95.0-93.75 after scoring 47.9 on vault while the Titans tallied a 45.875 on uneven bars. Lori Winn led UCLA with a 9.75 on her first vault effort of the year, tying for first place. Kisha Auld recorded a season-high 9.7 to place third. Schwikert added a 9.65, and Walker earned a 9.6.

On floor, Michelle Selesky hit her first routine of the year, scoring 9.525 and touching off a mini-celebration in the middle of the floor by her teammates and coaches. Walker followed up with a 9.675. Vanden Eykel also hit a clean set with impeccable dance that merited a 9.65. Peckett had a strong routine but received an out-of-bounds deduction on her first pass, dropping her score to 9.625. Tedmon closed the floor set with another top-notch routine and earned a team-high 9.7.

In the final rotation, the Bruins went 6-for-6 on beam, scoring a 48.225. Winn led off with a 9.5, and Vanden Eykel followed up with a 9.6. Peckett received a 9.525, and Tedmon hit for a 9.7. Kate Richardson, in her only routine of the competition was near-perfect and scored the only 9.85+ score of the evening, a 9.9. Walker finished the set with a 9.3 on her first collegiate beam routine.

Walker competed in the all-around for the first time in collegiate competition and took first place with a score of 38.1. Fullerton's Brittany Hoffman placed second with a 38.125, and Tedmon was third with a 37.3.
