Donald Sage, Lindsay Flacks Earn Berths On U.S. Cross Country Teams

Vancouver, Wa - Donald Sage, a Stanford senior, finished third in the open 4 km while freshman Lindsay Flacks finished fourth in the Junior Women's 6 km on Saturday at the 2005 USA Cross Country Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
The USA Cross Country Championships serve as the selection event for the U.S. team that will compete at the 2005 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, March 19-20, in St. Galmier, France. The top six finishers in the Open and Junior races qualify for the U.S. team.
Sage ran the distance in a time of 11:40. Tim Broe won the event (11:37) while Adam Goucher placed second (11:39). Following Sage were Josh McDougal (11:41), Jorge Torres (11:44) and Alan Webb (11:48).
Former Stanford standout Jonathon Riley just missed a berth on the U.S. team with a seventh place finish (11:53). Grant Robison, another former Stanford All-American distance runner, finished 15th (12:10).
In the Open Women's 8 km, another former Stanford runner, Lauren Fleshman, gained a berth on the United States team with a sixth place finish (28:11). Others to gain a place on the U.S, team were Colleen de Reuck (27:24), who won the event followed by Jen Rhines (27:44), Blake Russell (27:54), Kathy Newberry (28:01), and Katie McGregor (28:04).™
