Feb. 14, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State forward David Lucas has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for February 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Lucas, a senior from Tigard, Ore., averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 14-of-21 (.667) from the field and 12-of-15 (.800) from the line in leading the Beavers to wins over Washington State and No. 11 Washington. In the Beavers' 58-51 win over the Cougars, Lucas recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. In Oregon State's 90-73 upset of the Huskies, Lucas collected 17 of his 23 points, as well as seven of his 10 rebounds, in the second half. He had three of OSU's four baskets during an 8-0 run to open the second half, helping the Beavers build a 15-point lead early in the period.
Oregon State didn't have a player record a double-double in the season's first 19 games - Lucas now has three in the last four games. He is the Pac-10's fifth-leading scorer in Conference play, averaging 18 points per contest.
Oregon State (14-9, 6-6) travels to face the Arizona schools this week.
This is the third weekly honor for Lucas, the second this season, and Oregon State's 37th Player of the Week all-time.
