ARIZONA posted its 18th consecutive 20-win season, which is the longest active streak in the nation, and the 28th in school history. Furthermore, it was coach Lute Olson's 27th career 20-win season, which tied him with Texas Tech's Bob Knight and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim for second most in NCAA history... Olson now has 301 career Pac-10 victories, ranking him behind only UCLA's John Wooden (304) on the league's career victories list... Sophomore F Ivan Radenovic averaged 14.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in wins over USC and UCLA. He posted 19 points and 12 boards at UCLA for his fourth double-double of the season. Over his last five games, he's averaging 10.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game... Senior G Salim Stoudamire is just two treys shy of 300 career three-point field goals. He would join Steve Smith (ASU, 323), Jason Gardner (ARIZ, 318) and Jason Kapono (UCLA, 317) as only the fourth player in Pac-10 history to sink 300 three-pointers... Arizona has shot 50 percent or better from the floor in each of its last four games, and is 10-0 this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the field.
ARIZONA STATE senior G Steve Moore posted a career-high 31 points at UCLA, including eight three-pointers. Moore's eight three-pointers is the most by a Sun Devil since Stevin Smith tied his own school record by making 10 vs. Oregon State on Jan. 27, 1994... Sophomore G Kevin Kruger is one of four Sun Devils who is averaging double-digit scoring in ASU's Pac-10 contests (12.6 points per game) and has 14 double-digit scoring games overall. He has made 113-of-137 (.825) free throws in his 52-game career and is 53-of-58 (.914) from the foul line in Pac-10 games this year... Junior F Ike Diogu continues to lead the Pac-10 in both scoring (22.0 ppg.) and rebounding (9.8 rpg.). Only A.C. Green of Oregon State (1984-85) and Mark McNamara of California (1981-82) have led the Pac-10 in both categories... Sophomore F Serge Angounou is averaging 12.6 points and 8.1 rebounds and is 16-of-18 (.889) from the free throw line in the past 10 games.
CALIFORNIA junior F David Paris tallied 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and added nine rebounds in the loss at Stanford. Through the first five league games, Paris was shooting 12-of-26 (.462) from the field. Over the last seven league games, Paris is shooting .718 (28-of-39) from the field to raise his shooting percentage to a league-leading .615 in conference-only games... Junior C Rod Benson has scored in double figures in each of the last six games, averaging 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds during that stretch of games. Also, during that span, he's shooting 39-of-70 (.558) from the field... Coach Ben Braun is two wins shy of reaching 500 career victories. His career record in 28 seasons is 498-339 (.595).
OREGON's four true freshmen were the Ducks' leading scorers in Saturday's win over Washington State: Bryce Taylor and Chamberlain Oguchi with 12 each and Malik Hairston and Maarty Leunen with 11. Oguchi also scored a career-high 13 points Thursday vs. Washington... Oregon's six newcomers are accounting for 49 percent of Oregon's offense (35.4 ppg) and 42 percent of its rebounds (14.9 rpg)... Sophomore F Jordan Kent nabbed his first career double-double with career highs in points (19) and rebounds (16) against Washington... The win over WSU snapped Oregon's longest losing streak under Ernie Kent -- six games... Sophomore G Aaron Brooks had a career-high nine assists against Washington State... Oregon attempted a school and McArthur Court record 54 free throws Feb. 10 against Washington (making 33). The previous school record was 51 (vs. Boston U., 12-9-88) and the old Mac record was 50 by Oregon (vs. Seattle, 12-7-74). The two teams also combined for 67 fouls, one shy of the Court record.
OREGON STATE didn't have a player get a double-double in the season's first 19 games - senior F David Lucas now has three in the last four games. He posted nine rebounds in the game where he didn't record a double-double... Lucas is averaging 21.0 points and 9.8 rebounds over the last four games... The two victories last week give OSU 14 wins, the most since the 1991-92 season (when OSU had 15 wins). The Beavers began the week in eighth place but now sit alone in fifth place (and only one game out of third place)... OSU has its best record after 12 Pac-10 games (6-6) since 1992-93 (OSU was 7-5 after 12)... It's the second straight year that OSU has beaten a highly ranked opponent in Gill Coliseum. Last year it was #14 Arizona. The last time OSU beat an opponent ranked higher than Sunday (#11 Washington) was in the 1999-2000 season (#3 Arizona)... Senior forward Jim Hanchett, a key reserve, underwent season-ending shoulder surgery last Thursday.
STANFORD's 71-56 victory over California proved bittersweet, as the Cardinal's leading scorer, junior G Dan Grunfeld, went down with an ACL injury in the second half and was lost for the remainder of the season. Grunfeld is currently the Pac-10's fourth-leading scorer (17.9 ppg) and 14th-leading rebounder (5.5 rpg). He is also the Conference's sixth-most accurate three-point shooter, having made 43.1 percent of his treys on the year. Grunfeld averaged just 3.4 ppg in 2003-04 - his improvement by +14.3 ppg is the best by a Division I player this year... Junior C Matt Haryasz stepped up offensively in Grunfeld's absence, scoring 12 of his 18 points in the second half against the Bears. Haryasz also had 11 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season, good for second most in the Pac-10.
Senior F Dijon Thompson scored a career-high 39 points in UCLA's 95-76 win over Arizona State. His effort is tied for No. 14 in Bruin single-game history and was the most points scored by a Bruin since Jason Kapono put up 44 at WSU on Jan. 4, 2003. Thompson also contributed six rebounds, a season-high five assists and a season-high-tying three blocked shots. He tied his career-high by making seven three-pointers on nine attempts. Thompson's 39 points tied the Pac-10 season high set by ASU's Ike Diogu on Feb. 3... Against Arizona freshman G Jordan Farmar had a career night, scoring a career-high 27 points on 10-17 shooting. Over the last two games, Farmar is averaging 22.5 points and 6.0 assists.
USC snapped a five game losing streak with an 82-71 win over Arizona State. The Trojans were 10-for-18 from three-point range against a Sun Devil defense that had held opponents to a cumulative .296 percentage from behind the arc - the lowest percentage in the Pac-10. USC leads the Pac-10, averaging 7.71 three-point field goals per game... Freshman G Nick Young led USC offensively in the win, scoring 18 points while making all seven of his free throws. Young also had 18 two nights before against Arizona. He is USC's leading scorer in Pac-10 play, averaging 14.2 ppg in Conference games, tops among league freshmen... The Trojans head to the Bay Area this week - USC has won three of the last four against California, but lost five of six against Stanford.
WASHINGTON snapped a three-game losing at McArthur Court, beating the Ducks in overtime, 95-88. The Huskies won despite committing a school-record 36 personal fouls... Washington trailed by five in the final minutes before senior G Will Conroy put the team on his back, scoring the Huskies' final seven points in regulation, including the game-tying three-pointer with 26.5 seconds left. Conroy finished with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, seven assists and four rebounds in a career-high 43 minutes. He scored 12 of his 17 points in the game's final 6:14 (1:14 of the second half and overtime). The win was the Huskies' 20th, making 2004-05 their 22nd 20-win season, and their first since 1998. The last UW team with 20 regular-season wins was the 1985 squad.
WASHINGTON STATE shot 92.9 percent (13-for-14) from the foul line at Oregon, their best mark since making 100 percent (18-for-18) at No. 24 Stanford on Feb. 15, 2003... Freshman C Daven Harmeling made his first career start against the Ducks. It was the 13th different starting line-up used by the Cougars this season. Five different freshmen have started at least one game this season, most in school history. One of those freshmen, G Derrick Low, scored a career-high 19 points in the game, on 7-of-12 shooting... Senior G Thomas Kelati tallied three assists against the Ducks, moving him into 10th place on the WSU all-time list with 257.
