Scramble for 2nd- through 6th-place spots takes center stage in Eugene

The league-leading STANFORD Cardinal (22-2 overall, 13-1 Pac-10), winners of 13 in a row, could lock up a fifth straight Pac-10 title and 14th overall with a victory at USC Friday night... Likewise, the second-place Women of Troy (16-8, 10-5) will try to keep alive their shot at a share of the Conference title with victories this weekend... USC enters the week perfect in Pac-10 home games on the season (6-0)... A log-jam of teams follows the Cardinal, with one game separating the league's second- through sixth-place teams... Three of those teams will do battle in Eugene, Ore., this weekend, as the OREGON Ducks (16-7, 9-5) host ARIZONA STATE (17-7, 9-5) and ARIZONA (17-8, 9-5)... All three teams enter the week tied for third place as the Ducks look to defend their 7-0 Pac-10 home record... Kraayeveld sat out the Feb. 12 game at Washington with an inflamed left elbow and is listed as probable for the weekend... Sunday's Arizona-Oregon matchup will be televised live on Fox Sports Net, at 2 p.m. PT... Just a half-game behind the Sun Devils, Ducks and Wildcats, UCLA (15-9, 9-6) looks to snap a two-game losing skid when it returns home to Pauley Pavilion this week... WASHINGTON (11-14, 7-8) has won five of its last eight games after opening the season at 6-11... In the latest RPI power ratings listed by College Basketball News and the WBCA/Summerville report, respectively, six Pac-10 teams are ranked among the top 60 -- Stanford (6th, 7th), Arizona State (15th, 16th), Arizona (25th, 23rd), USC (44th, 47th), UCLA (58th, 57th) and Oregon (60th, 58th).

ARIZONA WILDCATS: The Wildcats converted 19-of-34 treys (55.9 percent) in a pair of wins over the LA schools last week... JR G Natalie Jones, who entered the week averaging 8.7 points per game, averaged 20.0 points in UA's wins over UCLA and USC... SR G Dee-Dee Wheeler notched 25 points and 11 rebounds against USC on Feb. 12 for her third double-double of the season... In Pac-10 games, Wheeler paces the league in scoring with 18.1 points per game... FR G Jessica Arnold is shooting 48.0 percent from beyond the arc in Pac-10 games (12-of-25), tops in the league... With 287 career thefts, Wheeler needs just two more steals to surpass UCLA's Michelle Greco (288) and climb to No. 2 on the Pac-10 all-time steals chart... USC's Tammy Story (1989-92) holds the league record of 309.

ARIZONA STATE SUN DEVILS: This week's Oregon trip wraps up a stretch of five of seven contests on the road for the Sun Devils... At 9-5 and with four regular-season games left, the Sun Devils have a chance to tie or set the school record for Pac-10 wins... ASU has won a school-record 12 Pac-10 games twice (2001 and 2002)... The team has already matched its three Pac-10 road wins from last season... ASU had its first two double-doubles of the season last weekend: JR F Kristen Kovesdy turned in 13 points and 10 rebounds Feb. 10 against USC, and SO F Emily Westerberg notched 10 points and 11 rebounds Feb. 12 against UCLA... ASU continues to lead the league and rank ninth in the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 53.0 points per game.

CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS: Despite being held to a season-low tying 50 points in the loss to No. 4/2 Stanford on Feb. 11, California looks to post the program's best scoring average in nine years -- since the 1995-96 squad averaged 71.8 ppg... The Bears rank seventh in the Pac-10 in scoring offense, entering the week at 67.1 ppg... SR G Kristin Iwanaga, in pursuit of the Pac-10 career free throw percentage mark, is shooting a Conference-leading 94.0 percent (63-of-67) from the charity stripe this year... Iwanaga, who was 6-of-6 from the line Feb. 11 against Stanford, needs to maintain a pace of two free throws made for every game she has played in to capture the Pac-10 mark... She is currently one ahead of the pace (109 games, 219 makes).

OREGON DUCKS: SR F Cathrine Kraayeveld sat out the Feb. 12 game at Washington with inflammation of the left elbow... She is listed as probable for the weekend... The Ducks had their streak of four straight Pac-10 wins, their longest Conference winning streak since 2001, snapped by the Huskies... Oregon averaged 21.0 turnovers in two games last weekend... The Ducks have committed at least 20 turnovers nine times this season, with eight of those games away from Mac Court... UO's 62-47 win at Washington State on Feb. 10 marked the 13th time this season the team has held an opponent to 60 or fewer points.

OREGON STATE BEAVERS: SR G Shannon Howell has reached double figures in scoring in a team-leading 18 games this season... Howell leads the Pac-10 in scoring (17.9 ppg) and is ranked in the top 10 in six other categories: free throw percentage (86.1), assists (3.21 apg), steals (2.08 spg), three-pointers made (1.42 avg.), assist-turnover ratio (1.08) and minutes played (33.21 avg.)... Oregon State is 5-2 when leading at the half this season, falling at Washington State on Feb. 12 after holding a 33-30 lead at the break... The Beavers' 71.1 free throw percentage this year is the second-highest in school history.

STANFORD CARDINAL: Winners of 13 straight, the Cardinal continues a three-game road swing with games at USC and UCLA this weekend... With a three and a half game lead over second-place USC, Stanford is gunning for its fifth straight Pac-10 title and 14th overall... With a win at USC on Friday, the Cardinal will capture the 2004-05 Pac-10 title outright... FR G Candice Wiggins scored a game-high 24 points at California on Feb. 11 to lead the Cardinal to a 91-50 win, its largest margin of victory over the Bears in Berkeley... Wiggins, who leads the squad with 17.3 points per game, turned 18 years old on Feb. 14... During its 13-game win streak, Stanford has won its games by an average of 21.6 points per contest... The Cardinal has held halftime leads in all 24 games this season, including 14 times by double figures.

UCLA BRUINS: JR G Nikki Blue averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of road losses to the Arizona schools last week... She finished with 32 points at Arizona State, including 27 in the second half... Over the last four games, Blue has averaged 24.25 points per contest... JR G Lisa Willis joined the 1,000 career points club with her fifth (of 16) point at UA on Feb. 10... Willis enters the week with 1,011 career points... Sunday's Stanford-UCLA game will pit the Pac-10's top two scoring offenses, as the Cardinal lead the league at 77.3 ppg and the Bruins are second at 72.0 ppg... UCLA has scored more points against Stanford (75) than any other team this season.

USC WOMEN OF TROY: The Women of Troy return home to host first-place Stanford and California this week... With a win over Stanford, USC keeps alive its shot at a share of the 2004-05 Pac-10 title... JR G Meghan Gnekow averaged 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a pair of road losses to the Arizona schools last week... In the loss at ASU on Feb. 10, the Women of Troy were held to a season-low 46 points... USC held the Sun Devils to just 16 points and 24.0 percent shooting in the second half, both opponent season lows... SO G Jamie Funn notched her second career double-double with a career-high 13 points and 10 rebounds against ASU.

WASHINGTON HUSKIES: After starting the season at 6-11 through its first 17 contests, Washington has won five of its last eight games... SO G Cameo Hicks led UW to a sweep of the Oregon schools last week, averaging 13.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals... A season-high crowd of 5,242 was on hand at Bank of America Arena Feb. 12 for the Oregon game.

WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS: Washington State enters the week ranked fifth in the Pac-10 in scoring defense (65.6 ppg), however, the Cougars are last in scoring offense (57.8 ppg) following their 47-point output in the loss to Oregon on Feb. 10... SO F Kate Benz continues to cling to the Pac-10 rebounding lead (9.4 rpg), as she looks to become the first Cougar to ever claim the league's rebounding crown... In Pac-10 games, Oregon's Cathrine Kraayeveld leads Benz by three-tenths of a point (9.8 to 9.5)... Playing in their last games on their home court, seniors Jessica Perry and Emma Joneby combined for 21 points Feb. 12 in the win over Oregon State...
