Beaver Tales; 2/16
Feb. 16, 2005
Well, we survived a long weekend up in Washington. Not only survived, but had some of our best meets thus far in the season. It wasn't really that bad competing two nights in a row. I think the coaches prepared us pretty well during the week, and we felt good going into both meets.
Okay, so a recap of the weekend in a nutshell:
Night One: vs. Washington and Arkansas
We were definitely fired up for this one! After a movie-less bus ride up to Seattle (because we all brought DVDs in a VHS only bus...WHOOPS), we got ready to take care of business. We were really excited that the girls who didn't travel with us drove up to support us from the stands. (Thanks guys!)
So the meet:
Rocking some bar routines was a great way to start the meet, and really set the tone for the rest of the events. We had some solid beam routines, followed by a good show on the purple floor, despite a few minor mishaps. Vault...WOW! Outstanding rotation for us - everyone having great vaults and every yurchenko vaulter sticking it cold. The energy and the excitement from the team on vault were what we have been striving for all year. That is the magic that Beaver gymnasts create. Once it starts, it's contagious and carries from one person to the next. We wanted to carry over that same fire to SPU the next night.
We also got the chance to see Liz again (Elizabeth Jillson, a bar goddess, for those of you that don't know). She came to dinner with us and we got a chance to catch up.
Night Two: vs. Seattle Pacific
Despite competing on back-to-back nights our goals were just as high the second night, and with the opportunity to get two road scores in one weekend...you had better believe we were ready to go. Without going into detail about every event, there were some highlight routines in every rotation. I guess the word to describe it is solid. Although we had a few mistakes as a whole, I think we are becoming a team that believes in itself, and it is starting to show when we are out there on the floor. We can build off of one another, stick dismounts, have fun and do great all at the same time. What a concept ;-)
To all of the OSU Boosters, friends and family that came along, thank you so much for coming up and giving us some support! You guys were great both nights. However, a small helpful hint. On your cheer that goes 'O....S....U....Oregon State, fight, fight, fight' (know that one!?) Hold each letter longer and slow it down a little bit. Oh, and Candie...left arm goes up on the S! Richard, maybe you can lead this one :-) J/K. But seriously, you guys are all awesome and we appreciate what you add to our team. Let's see if we can get Gill fans to join in!
Until next time, we'll be working hard...and see you in Tucson next week!
