No. 1 Stanford Set to Host Washington Schools

Stanford, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford (6-0) will host No. 75 Washington State (2-6) and No. 8 Washington (7-1) this weekend at the Taube Tennis Center. Weather permitting, the Cardinal and the Cougars are slated to face off on Friday, while the Huskies will visit The Farm on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 1:30 p.m., and Friday's match versus Washington State will be webcasted live on

Washington State has lost four matches in a row heading into the weekend, including a 6-1 decision at Oregon last week. The Cougars will play at Santa Clara on Thursday afternoon before playing at Stanford tomorrow.

Saturday's match will be the second dual between Stanford and Washington, as the two squads met in Madison, Wis., at the National Team Indoor Championships. Stanford is the only team that has defeated the Huskies this season. The Cardinal posted a 6-1 decision over the Huskies in the quarterfinals en route to winning the title. Stanford swept doubles and then won five singles matches, with Washington's only win coming at the No. 2 spot, as Dinka Hadzic took a 6-2, 6-4 victory. The Huskies' No. 1 singles player, 13th-ranked Dea Sumantri lost a 7-6(5), 6-1 decision to two-time NCAA Singles Champion Amber Liu.

Stanford will continue its home-stand with a midweek match-up with Fresno State on Tuesday before hosting UCLA and USC next weekend.
