Feb. 17, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - Stanford's Caroline Bruce and Ashlee Rosenthal have been named the Pac-10's January Co-Swimmer and Diver of the Month, respectively. The honor was the first for both Bruce and Rosenthal, as well as the first for Stanford in both areas. The Pac-10 began the monthly women's swimming and diving honors this season. Bruce and Rosenthal led the Cardinal to a perfect 5-0 dual meet record in January.
Bruce is currently ranked third in the nation in the 200 breast (2:11.08), fourth in the 100 breast (1:01.19) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:00.44). Her times in the 100 and 200 breast make her the No. 3 all-time performer at Stanford in both events. She is unbeaten this season in the 200 breast with a perfect 6-0 record and leads the team with 27 overall victories.
Rosenthal picked up the first five of her seven regular season wins on the boards in January with the other two coming in a sweep of the 1-meter and 3-meter competition at California in Stanford's regular season finale at California on February 12, when she also recorded a season-best score of 301.13 in the 3-meter event. Rosenthal also had a sweep of the two diving events versus UCLA on January 28.
Stanford will next travel to the Pac-10 Championships from Thursday-Saturday, February 24-26 in Federal Way, Washington. Prelims are scheduled each day for 10 am with the finals session slated for 6 pm. The Cardinal is the defending conference champion and has won 15 of the 18 Pac-10 Championships contested.
